The evolution of Social Work supervision worldwide calls for a paradigm shift in how we conceptualise and practice supervision. By “re-storying” positive social work supervision, Prof Lambert K Engelbrecht invites social work educators, field instructors, practitioners, supervisors, managers, and policymakers to engage in the deconstruction and reconstruction of their “supervision story” through the lens of a developmental theory of professional identity, a competency model, and a strengths perspective.
Key takeaways include:
- What defines positive Social Work supervision?
- Is it feasible to “unboss” supervision/management?
- Ultimately, is my supervision/management helpful or harmful?
