Programme Details

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is an internationally recognised training. ASIST was founded by LivingWorks Education Inc. in Calgary, Canada. To date, ASIST is the most widely used, acclaimed and researched suicide intervention skills training in the world.

This 2-day workshop will enable social workers and related professionals to assist persons at risk of suicide by using an effective suicide interventional model so that they will stay safe and seek further help. The training will be conducted through lectures, structured group discussions, case studies, role-plays and video discussions. Set in an interactive and practice-oriented learning environment, participants will acquire the essential and pivotal skills to intervene and prevent the immediate risk of suicide.

Upon completion of the course, participants will

  1. Increase awareness of their own attitude towards suicide and its impact on the intervention process
  2. gain knowledge that will enable participants to deal with person at risk of suicide with greater confidence and competence.
  3. develop skills in suicide first aid to help a person at risk stay safe and seek further help.

The workshop is designed for all individuals in organisations who are Social workers, medical social workers, psychologists, counsellors, allied health professionals, educators and social service practitioners.

Our certified ASIST Trainers are Mr Desmurn Lim, Mr Frederick Low,  Mr Roger Ong, Mr Alvin Chua, Ms Agnes Chia, Ms Zeng Hui Hui, Ms Cheng Hwee Fern, Ms Nicole Wong, Ms Lee Ming Li, & Ms Joanna Tan. The trainers have vast experience and knowledge in suicide intervention and have worked with different clientele in the social service, hospital and special education sectors. They are also experienced trainers in counselling, psychology and other areas in the social service and healthcare sectors.

VCF Grant Application

The PCG Local Training is open to participants who meet the following criteria and conditions:

1. Must be employed and sponsored for the course by a Social Service Agency (SSA) affiliated to the National Council of Social Service (NCSS); and

2. Must attain at least 75% attendance failing which he/she or his/her employer will have to pay the FULL course fee.

Payment Method

If you are sponsored by your employer, please seek approval from your Supervisor to attend the course before you register. In the event of any discrepancies, you will be liable for the course fee.

All fees must be paid after course confirmation and before commencement. Payments may be made by paynow or bank transfer. 

For E-payments, please email to training@sasw.org.sg your payment voucher quoting invoice no., course title, course run date and date of payment.

Registration

The registrant will receive an acknowledgement receipt via email. Please allow up to 5 working days for processing of registration. Upon confirmation of participation, the HR/department administrator (i.e. contact person)/registrant will receive a course confirmation notice and invoice from SASW-FRTC via email.
