Programme Details

Under the National Social Work Competency Framework (NSWCF), Community Work is one of the Key Responsibility Areas (KRA) in Direct Practice for Social Workers. Indeed, Community Work Practice remains a salient part of the psycho-social well-being of the community. Community Work Practice involves working directly with individuals, conducting needs assessments and making referrals to resources in the community

Through this practical 2 days training, participants would walk away with a more comprehensive understanding in the following areas: 

1) Concept of Community

2) Concept of Community Work Practice

3) History and Evolution of Community Work Practice in Singapore

4) Knowledge Base and Skills in Community Work

5) Theories, Models, Strategies and Tactics in Community Work

6) Applying Community Work Practice in Singapore

7) Community Assessment – Assets and Needs Assessment

8) Community Mobilisation – Networks, Networking and Building Social Capital

9) Roles and Values of Community Workers.

In this effective workshop, participants would be able to:

  • Describe the concept and scope of community work practice
  • Be equipped with the knowledge and skills involved in community work practice
  • Walk away with a better understanding on the theories, models, strategies and tactics involved in community work practice
  • Develop knowledge and competencies in applying community work practice in Singapore
  • Gain knowledge and competencies in using tools in community work practice such as community assessment and community mobilisation
  • Have a more comprehensive view of the roles and values of community workers be able to develop a model of community work practice in the agency after the course

The workshop is designed for all individuals in organisations who are Social Workers and Social Service Practitioners with at least 1 year of direct practice experience in a social work or social service setting and who are interested in community work practice or who will be involved in community work practice.

Jean has a strong interest and passion for sustainable and systemic cross-sector solutioning for change. This arose from her past experiences in reviewing, redesigning and developing community-based interventions involving volunteers and partners.

Jean also believes in the importance of capacity building so that staff, volunteers and service users can then go on to do more with who they are and what they have. Jean was conferred the Promising Social Worker Award in 2012.

Prior to her posting to lead a preschool-based preventive development model of work with Circle of Care under Care Corner Singapore, Jean worked in the family services sector and was the agency head for two family service centres.

VCF Grant Application

The VCF grant is open to participants who meet the following criteria and conditions:

1. Must be employed and sponsored for the course by a Social Service Agency (SSA) affiliated to the National Council of Social Service (NCSS); and

2. Must attain at least 75% attendance failing which he/she or his/her employer will have to pay the FULL course fee.

Payment Method

If you are sponsored by your employer, please seek approval from your Supervisor to attend the course before you register. In the event of any discrepancies, you will be liable for the course fee

For E-payments, please email to training@sasw.org.sg your payment voucher quoting invoice no., course title, course run date and date of payment.

Registration

The registrant will receive an acknowledgement receipt via email. Please allow up to 5 working days for processing of
registration. Upon confirmation of participation, the HR/department administrator (i.e. contact person)/registrant will receive a course confirmation notice and invoice from SASW-FRTC via email.
