This course provides participants with fundamental knowledge of family violence and provides participants with handles to work with victims, perpetrators and witnesses of family violence. Participants would also learn about how different systems, such as the police and family court are involved and how to tap on these systems in the management of a family violence case.
From this 3-day workshop, participants will learn:
- Introduction to family violence
- Belief systems of participants on families and family violence
- Myths of family violence
- Types of family violence
- Signs and indicators of different types of family violence
- Effects of family violence on victims, perpetrators and witnesses of family violence
- Theoretical framework
- How different systems and law in Singapore that protect individuals and families against family violence
- Working with victims and perpetrators
Upon completion of the course, participants will
- Understand fundamental principles of family violence
- Knowledge of the types, signs and indicators of family violence
- Understand the effects of family violence on family
- Knowledge of the systems and law and how it affects working with family who
experience family violence - Assessment of the risk level, plan and carry out interventions
The workshop is designed for all individuals in organisations who are Social Service Practitioners and Social Workers who are or will be handling cases with issues of family violence in settings such as family service centres, counselling centres and health care settings. Experience in working with family that experienced family violence prior to attending the course would be beneficial.
Kristine graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Social Work. She joined Care Corner Family Service Centre (Queenstown) in 2012 and is currently an accredited Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the Social Work Accreditation Board, Singapore.
As a social worker, Kristine works with families who are faced with issues related to financial difficulties, single parenthood, mental well-being issues, family violence among others. Kristine’s special interest area lies in protection work with individuals and families. In 2013, she embarked on work at Care Corner Project StART, one of the three family violence specialist agency in Singapore. Besides her frontline role in crisis management and working with victims and perpetrators of family violence, Kristine also contributes towards developing social workers’ practice competencies related to family violence and family protection. To date, Kristine has successfully trained social workers, police officers, public servants and grassroots leaders. She is also a well sought after trainer and trains at the Social Service Institute and the Family Resource and Training Centre.
In 2016, Kristine was awarded National Family Violence Dialogue Group Appreciation Award In 2017, she was awarded Promising Social Worker Award by the President, Madam Halimah Yacob. Presently, she is the Lead Social Worker of Care Corner Project StART, overseeing a part of the service planning, development and implementation of the agency and supervision of social work staff.
Kristine has represented Care Corner Project StART in multiple inter-agency platforms. She sat in the National Family Violence Networking Symposium Organising Committee 2014. She was involved in multiple terms of Family Violence Working Group and is currently chairing the Clementi FVWG. She is also involved in the development, publicity and training of the use of the Structured Decision Making (SDM) guide with Child Protective Services and is now involved in the development of a similar SDM with Adult Protective Services.
In the recent years, Kristine focuses her work on two specific population groups – Parents who are experience violence from their adult children, and adolescents and young adults who continued to experience violence beyond childhood. Accompanying this work, issues such as managing nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI), increasing positive social engagements and working towards independence living for youths and young adults were addressed in hope to attain stability for the family.
In her leisure time, Kristine enjoys reading and spending time with her family. She is married with two daughters.

PCG Local Training
The PCG Local Training is open to participants who meet the following criteria and conditions:
1. Must be employed and sponsored for the course by a Social Service Agency (SSA) affiliated to the National Council of Social Service (NCSS); and
2. Must attain at least 75% attendance failing which he/she or his/her employer will have to pay the FULL course fee.
Payment Method
If you are sponsored by your employer, please seek approval from your Supervisor to attend the course before you register. In the event of any discrepancies, you will be liable for the course fee.
All fees must be paid after course confirmation and before commencement. Payments may be made by PAYNOW or bank transfer.
