Child-Centric Practice

This training offers a comprehensive understanding of child-centric practice, empowering participants with the knowledge and skills essential for working effectively with families with young children. Through a blend of theoretical exploration and practical application, participants learn to integrate key developmental theories and child-centric principles into assessment making. Participants will also be equipped with practical skills for collaborating with families and systems to address a child’s developmental needs effectively. By the end of the training, participants will be able to apply child-centric principles in their social work practice, thereby supporting the well-being and development of children in families.   

Participants will be able to:  

• Demonstrate understanding of what child-centric practice is and its importance 
• Demonstrate understanding of key developmental theories relating to children and their application in child-centric practice 
• Integrate child-centric principles into assessment processes and intervention plans 
• Learn strategies for working with families and systems to ensure effective collaboration to support child’s developmental needs 

This training is designed for Social and Social Service Professionals working with families with children under 12 years old.

Ms Laura Tan  is a social work professional with over 10 years of experience, working extensively with families with young children across a range of needs – from preventive-developmental to remedial intervention. She began her career supporting families affected by violence and later focused on children from low-resource families. Laura has trained professionals in the social service and early childhood sectors, equipping them to better support children’s development. She believes in the power of the child’s ecosystem and engages social service professionals, educators, volunteers and parents to create positive, lasting impact for children through collaborative, child-centric practice.

Ms Joan Foo is a dedicated advocate for human potential, with a fervent desire to witness individuals overcome barriers to reach their fullest capabilities. Her journey began in the heart of the special education sector, where she found her passion for supporting children, collaborating closely with educators and families to ensure that every child has the needed support to thrive. Joan designed and implemented behavioural and educational intervention programmes for students with intellectual disabilities, coupled with on-going training for teachers and parents as well as counselling for parents
Venturing beyond borders, Joan spent a transformative 12 years in the Philippines, deeply entrenched in the lives of families and children facing the formidable challenges of poverty and systemic inequality. It was here that she developed a profound desire to break the chains of generational poverty, sparking a lifelong commitment to empower individuals to transcend their circumstances.

Ms Anna Soh is a social worker by training, Anna has had the privilege of journeying with diverse group of clients ranging from caregivers of adults with additional needs to trafficking survivors. Her ability to listen to understand and perspective-take has enabled her to be able to identify the pain points clients experience, so as to best work it through with them. 

Anna joined Circle of Care Consultancy Services with a desire to continue to inspire hope and courage in the whole ecosystem surrounding a child, through different platforms such as training, digital learning, and consultancy services. She most recently trained Early Childhood educators in adapting Mind-In-The-Making Life Skills into classrooms.
