Programme Details

Equip Social Workers in different settings on the use of biopsychosocial spiritual (BPSS) approach in casework management.  The course seeks to deepen Social Workers’ appreciation of multi-dimensionality of holistic care taking into consideration Singapore’s social policies and social landscape. The course seeks to enhance the ability of Social Workers to conduct an assessment and develop case management plans in supporting individual and family functioning.  Applying the BPSS framework alongside theoretical bases such as systems theory, ecological theory and strengths perspective, the training aims to illuminate the strengths, risks, and vulnerabilities of clients so that Social Workers are enabled to plan interventions in a systematic and evidence-based manner. 

  • Application of systems theory, ecological model, social determinants of health, health belief model in accordance to participants’ organization and sector
  • Examination of the relevant social policies in Singapore. Eg CYPA, Women’s Charter, POHA, Mental Capacity Act, Vulnerable Adults Act, Pillars of Social
  • BPSS-Integration of theories in case conceptualisation

Upon completion of the course, the participant will

  • Determine Social Worker’s role in light of social environment/landscape and social policies in Singapore. 
  • Apply Social Work theories and relevant theoretical models and frameworks in assessment and intervention.
  • Develop plans of intervention to strengthen family and individual and family functioning
  • Formulate plans for Social Work intervention based on the BPSS framework.

Develop strategies and plans to work through the various systems using a collaborative approach to implement holistic interventions.

Social Workers & professionals involved in Health Care, Intermediate and Long Term Care, Disability Care from Schools, Communities and Corrective Services.

The training is mapped to skill SSC-PPR-5003-1.1 Casework Intervention-5 in Case work Management

Dr. Ho Lai Peng graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Social Work) from NUS ,a Master of Social Work from Washington University, St Louis and a Doctor of Philosophy (Social Work) from NUS. She has been a Social Worker since 1991 and has spent the past 33 years with Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She currently serves as a Senior Principal Medical Social Worker in TTS Hospital.

Ms Nicole Wong graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Social Work) and Master of Social Science (Social Work) from NUS.

She is a dedicated Social Work practitioner, leader and thought influencer in her area of expertise which include medical Social Work practice, disabilities, suicide, grief work and family violence. She is driven and passionate to increase capabilities in healthcare services, social service agencies and

aspiring students. She is committed to improve human service delivery and advocate for vulnerable populations. She has proven track record of planning/strategizing training structures in areas such as tertiary education and improving the quality of life of people with disabilities, stigmatizing health conditions, and impact of living in low-income conditions.

The PCG Claim is open to participants who meet the following criteria and conditions:

1. Must be employed and sponsored for the course by a Social Service Agency (SSA) affiliated to the National Council of Social Service (NCSS); and

2. Must attain at least 75% attendance failing which he/she or his/her employer will have to pay the FULL course fee.

Payment Method

If you are sponsored by your employer, please seek approval from your Supervisor to attend the course before you register. In the event of any discrepancies, you will be liable for the course fee.

All fees must be paid after course confirmation and before commencement. Payments may be made by Paynow or bank transfer.

Registration

The registrant will receive an acknowledgement receipt via email. Please allow up to 5 working days for processing of
registration. Upon confirmation of participation, the HR/department administrator (i.e. contact person)/registrant will receive a course confirmation notice and invoice from SASW-FRTC via email.
